Aster cordifolius ‘Avondale’
|
A prolific bloomer, Aster ‘Avondale’ carpets the shade garden with light blue flowers in early fall when little else is in bloom. Its leaves are clean, dark green and heart-shaped. A selection of the native Wood Aster, the species is found in the eastern United States in open woods and clearings. Low maintenance and tough, as well as attractive to butterflies!
Uses Use as a specimen or massed in beds and borders or wild gardens. Attractive to butterflies. Long-lasting, beautiful filler in autumn bouquets, not wilting quickly as do many asters. Also effective dried. Cultivation Grow in a sunny to shady site with average to dry soil. Tolerates clay. Water regularly until established. Not bothered with serious insect or disease problems. Divide every few years to maintain vigour. Deer resistant.
