Astilbe ‘Rise and Shine’
|
New, hot pink flowering hybrid Astilbe ‘Rise and Shine’ rouses the summer shade garden with its large, 25 cm plumes held on sturdy stems. Coarsely textured, fern-like mounds of foliage and dried seed heads continue the ornamental interest through fall. As a shade garden mainstay, A. ‘Rise and Shine’ has the increased sun and drought tolerance of the Astilbe chinensis species.
Uses Effective as an accent or massed or in shaded borders, in woodland gardens or on pond or stream banks. Also excellent for cutting, fresh or dried. Cultivation Prefers moist, humusy, organically rich soils in sun to full shade. In full sun, a summer mulch will help to retain soil moisture and prevent foliage decline. Divide every 3 or 4 years to maintain vigour. Not bothered by insects or diseases, and not usually appealing to deer or rabbits.
