Astrantia ‘Star of Summer’ PPAF

Adored by floral designers as a unique fresh or dried cut flower, this is one of the most compact new cultivars. Astrantia ‘Star of Summer’ features a compact mound of dark green foliage topped by spectacular flower colour. Each flower glows with a starry collar of purple red bracts surrounding a button-like umbel of white. They are produced on wiry stems in branched clusters from early through late summer.

Uses

Very effective in partly sunny borders or open woodlands, rock gardens or in containers. It is also superb as a fresh or dried cut flower. Butterflies find the blooms appealing.

Cultivation

Appreciates rich, consistently moist soil in part shade. After flowering, spent flower stalks should be cut to the ground. This plant spreads slowly by stolons if it is happy with its site. Not usually bothered by pests or diseases.
