Hosta ‘Heat Wave’
|
This fabulous Hosta has incredibly thick blue leaves highlighted by a contrasting chartreuse central pattern in spring. In summer, the leaf centres brighten to gold, and the margins deepen to blue-green. On mature plants, reaching 40 cm tall by 90 cm wide, the thick foliage displays some puckering. A medium-sized Hosta, it is topped in early summer with spikes of white flowers...quite impressive!
Uses Excellent as a specimen or massed in partly shady borders, open woodland gardens or near water. Both flowers and leaves are attractive in flower arrangements. Attracts hummingbirds. Cultivation Plant in light shade in rich, well-drained soil that is average to moist. Fairly tolerant of dry soils once established. This plant demonstrates good resistance slugs, and is not usually a favourite with rabbits.
