Panicum virgatum ‘Thundercloud’ PPAF
|
Panicum ‘Thundercloud’ is a very tall switch grass indeed! It grows to a height of 2.1 to 2.4 m when mature, yet the blue-green foliage remains strictly upright and doesn’t flop in windy, rainy conditions, also remaining standing through winter unless snows are heavy. In late summer, pinkish-tan, airy panicles are produced just above the foliage.
Uses Effective as a specimen, in masses, used for screening, or alongside ponds or streams. Cultivation Grow in well-drained soil with dry to medium moisture in full sun. Performs well in any soil, from sand to clay, and even withstands periodic flooding. Cut back clumps to the ground in early spring. No serious insect or disease problems. Not usually appealing to deer.
