Our preference has always been for simple, graceful flowers adorning healthy perennials that don’t need staking or spraying. The range of these wonderful plants continuously expands, bringing further improvements and tempting new flower and foliage colours. Ultimately, our desire is to help you create truly innovative gardens, full of character and colour over a long season, which are easy to maintain.

Fall Colour

With longer autumns a reality, and overcast and gloomy ones at that, an extended garden season becomes very desirable indeed. We offer a particularly wide-ranging selection of late season perennials – not only fall bloomers and the most promising new ornamental grasses, but also perennials with persistent, decorative or colourful leaves, along with others that take a vibrant seasonal turn. (See also our online Garden Tour.)

Native Plants

We also have a special interest in offering worthy N. A. native plants that should be more widely known. These are often best at attracting wildlife to the garden, and many have excellent drought tolerance.

City Gardens

For space-challenged gardens, we present numerous compact new versions of reliable perennial favourites. A small plot can now have all the range and colour of a much larger one, with everything to scale.

Plant Hardiness

A good gardener is sensible about hardiness zones. The zones give some guidance, but the total growing situation, not just the winter low temperature, affects a plant’s survival. Snow cover is of great benefit in our region, but different soil types, patterns of temperature change, amounts of rainfall and drainage, and the use of mulch are also important.
